Hi, this is Noodle (about 9 inches, age unknown but I’ve had him/her for a few months.) I originally thought Noodle was male because of what I thought was a small cloaca bump. However, the bump isn’t always there (sometimes right before a poop it looks big but then it shrinks back the next day). Also I feel like the overall body shape looks female. What do you think? Female? Or chunky male? Or just keep waiting to know for sure?

The body shape makes me think female, but it's hard to tell with the little bulge behind the legs. The toes don't look super dark, have they darkened at all? You might have to wait a little longer to see (i'm in the same spot, haha)

By the bulk of thel body I'd say female, at that size the gonads are normally pretty obvious.
Fat happy looking Axie btw! :)

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
