I was hoping that you all could help me with an ID. I discovered a number of Plethodon species while doing some hiking outside of Fairfield, PA. Below are a couple of pictures that were only slightly adjusted for color levels and saturation, so the color and patterns are true to life.

Sorry I'm not well versed in my plethodontids, however, Check the Pennsylvania fish and game website. They have a list and description for every newt and salamander species in PA.

I think it's Plethodon hoffmani. Did you get a full body shot?

I don't know what it is. Looks like some other species located only in small portions of other states, but, other then that, I'm not sure.

I'm pretty sure it's a Plethodon hoffmani (Vally and Ridge Salamander) What county did you find it in? A great site for IDing PA Salamanders is PA HERP IDENTIFICATION.

My guess is Plethodon electromorphus, because the range seems more in line with where you found him.

Out of range for P. electromorphus.

I would also guess hoffmani, but it could also be a lead phased cinereus. With out a full body or ventral shot it would be hard to say, since I have seen cinereus with the same coloration.

ah, "Fairfield PA" on google maps gives me a spot by Waynesburg, but not the one on Gettysburg.

I must have saw a different one also lol. If it is Adams Co. it is out of hoffmani range also. The range only extends to the west side of Franklin Co. So it would be a cinereus.

If it was in Washington Co. I would also go with cinereus, instead of electromorphus.
