Hi my son rescued this axolotl about a year ago, however every since we've had it, it's had a problem staying upright. As it's got older this has been getting worse. You gently right it but as soon as it tries to swim it flips over and gets stuck on its back. It looks like it's tail is shorter than other axolotls and also is bend down. Is there anything we can do for him?

I've attached a picture showing how he sadly spends most of his time and his strange tail.

It looks like it has a birth defect, which would be the explanation for the bent tail. There's also a possibility that it may have neurological issues as well that could explain why the little guy has a difficult time righting itself and remaining upright. If it's eating and otherwise looks to be healthy then it may just need a little help now and then to get back up, but should be just fine.
