Hey guys,

Our axolotl had a red spot on the very tip of his tail yesterday. The very end of his tail has now fallen off and about 0.5cm from the end of his tail, his tail appears to be slit and there is another red spot right where the slit is.

His had some fungus (perhaps stress related) so we gave him a salt bath and it appears to have helped.

Any idea what the red spots are?

Mt 3 just got over a fungus. On gills and the tips of their tails to me it sounds like that is were the fungus was matbe coming back I would stat salt bath again. 2 times a day and a few days after all red or fungus is gone. Hope this helps.

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
