i had a small tank and filter that i used to keep my axie in and it kept going like a cloudy white colour so i changed my axie to a large tank with a large fluval 3 filter that has done the trick i put my goldfish in the small tank after cleaning it a million times lol and it has gone cloudy any suggestions the filter that i have isnt small but isnt big it should be ok but it isnt why

How long had your tank been set up before this cloudiness began to occur? It is very common within the first month of setting up a tank for the water to become cloudy as it will be going through the nitrogen cycle.

it was about a couple of month but will it go away if so how long will it take and is it harmful

How big of a tank? Goldfish grow far to large for most tanks.

am i talking about the same type of goldfish that you are most goldfish only grow like 4 inches at most dont they lol

Carl,
I have seen goldfish (not koi) that were over two feet long in some outdoor pools.

Ed: I would like to see photos if you can catch them out. i myself have some that are at 8 inches...but nowhere near yours! On the other end of the scale, I have some 10 month olds that are nearly 4 inches now.

Goldfish grow far larger(far faster)than most people would ever guess. The best thing to do would be to get rid of the goldfish.

well i had one for 6 years and mine only grew 5 inches max o well seeing as you no more then me i suppose i better take your word for it i will be getting rid

Goldfish (not the really fancy breeds) are basically domesticated carp. I would think that fish bought recently would be selectively bred to stay smaller for pets, but older individuals or their offspring may grow larer. Also don't fish grow more or less to fit their container - obviously you might get them a bit too big for a tank, but a goldfish in a 2 foot tank wouldn't grow to 2 foot itself, whereas it might in a large out door pool.
I have seen some goldfish that big in some semi-ornamental lakes near me where people have dumped unwanted pets and they have grown huge because of all the food people throw to the ducks.

Hi Joe,
That was a number of years ago when I went to visit a girl I was dating. Her family had some outdoor ponds that contained these fish. If you keep an eye at some of the pet stores that cater to the pond craze you can occasionally see some trade ins that are in that size range.

i think the size of the goldfish depends on the size of its home tank/pond so if you keep a goldfish from young in a small tank it will not grow to big but if you put it in a pond it will grow bigger

It is not true that a goldfish will only grow to the size that fits its container.

Please do some web research on goldfish care so you know what you need to do for them.

sniplet of info from one of the links I got back from google:

Goldfish do have the potential to grow quite large. Straight-tailed varieties have been recorded to around 40 cm, and other varieties have been reported at over 35 cm. However, most specimens will not reach these sizes! The growth rate of goldfish is variable, and their final size dependent on the conditions in which they are kept.

That said, it is a myth that a goldfish will grow only to the size of their tank. If a goldfish is kept in a small tank, fed only a small amount once daily, and the water changed regularly, it will grow only very slowly and may live for several years, reaching a maximum size of maybe eight to ten centimetres. It is true that the growth of a goldfish may be somewhat stunted in a small tank - a high nitrate level is known to stunt growth - but growth is slowed, not stopped altogether. However, if fed too much, or if kept in a tank that is not sufficiently filtered or maintained, a goldfish will simply grow to the point where its tank will not support its wastes and will succumb either to poisoning as a result of waste build-up or to disease caused by poor water quality.

If you want big gold fish why not just get koi? They reach 70+ cm. Although when I went Japan three years ago saw some that must have been over a meter long In giant ornamental ponds near shrines. Such animals must have been insanely expensive, like over £20,000!

Goldfish are a bit more cold tolerant than are koi...and also cheaper.

I believe Bristol shubunkins(but it could be the other breed) have been selected to only grow to 6 inches. Still, if you want small fish, there are plenty of other more colorful and entertaining choices than goldfish. However, for highly visible pondfish, goldfish and koi are tough to beat(orfe would be another one to consider).

If you want a pond for newts, don't put in gold fish or any other fish!!!

what i dont understand what your talking about my fish is in a tank on its own lol and i am not going to put it into my pond when its done lol

You did ask for suggestions on the goldie right?

Back to your axxie. It is likely the tank is not cycled...or at least not properly.
