So I’m getting some axies from a lady who doesn’t want hers anymore. She sent me some photos of the them and I’m a bit worried. They look skinny and their gills look rough. When I pick them up next week what do I need to do to prepare for their rehab? Do they just need a clean tank, or do I need to prepare for something more intense?

They are definitely thin and their gills are in poor shape, but I don't see any other signs of physical injury or anything. The best thing you can do for them is have them in a clean, cold, cycled tank and offer then good nutrition. Axolotls are resilient little animals and do bounce back pretty quickly with just good water quality and healthy food.

Great! Thank you! I’m hoping to make them big and chunky!

Just an update! They are starting to look much better and their gills are growing in so much faster than I thought they would. In a week they have doubled in length and fluff!
