Ok, than i won't put them together with the sasayame i have, to prevent 'hybrid' of different subspecies. I have them both in a 60cm tank now, they are Lucky
They do look like my C. p sasayama, although there were some identical looking newts for sale last year that were apparently collected on Kyushu so I agree with everyone else, you can never be 100% sure.
Sasayama is in Kyushu, but the color traits of C.sasayamae can occur in some populations of other species. Locality is critical for Cynops, given that species names and boundaries are not firmly established yet.
Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation
Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
