hey everyone, my name is Pv2 byker. I'm a soldier in the us army, havent had any newts/salamanders in about a year but i had some experience in high school before the army. I'm originally from northern wisconsin. im getting married next month, thankfully she puts up with my hobbies haha. im planning on getting back into caudates after i get back from my next assignment, where i wont be able to have any pets. plus my pay over there will let me get a BIG terrarium. i wont post a lot, better listener than asker. one question though, does anyone have blue spotted salamanders? i grew up finding them, even hatched a few but they seem absent in the trade....

Welcome to the forum! I keep blue spots and there are a few others on here who keep them as well, but it ain't many. I don't see why they aren't kept more either. If you ask me, they are just like a scaled down version of a tiger salamander in regards to their attitudes and behaviour.

Welcome! If you ask me, a lot of times native species are unpoular in the trade if you can just find them in your backyard. Why sell them in a pet store if you can get them outside? Sadly, there their are strict laws against taking herptile species out of their environments here in the U.S. So you need to find a breeder-hopefully you can find one right here-you can find a breeder here for practically every kind of caudate (and I wouldn't be surprised if their were captive breeders for endangered species, too). Native species of the U.S. might not be ppular also for their dull coloration. Tiger Salamanders are popular for their overall personalties and Marbles for their hardiness and ability to withstand higher temeratures than the average salamander. otherwise, public taste=bleh!

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
