Hi everyone im Mellisa and new to forum and axolotls,
Just to explain a few things first.
I basically saved a wild axolotl from a pet store in uk whilst buying my fish food ( sharing the water from the turtles tanks above and around him !!!) Had a fungal infection a bad cloudy slime all over basically white creamy look to ihim, he is 6inches long no hides , bright light and his ext gills bitten off by another young wild one that was smaller than him. Fungal prob from poor water quality from turtle water I guess ! Also very hot in reptile section !
No one had any clue in reptile section how to look after them they had just got a stock of 4 in. They even said some fish fin rot medication will get rid of slime, I told them actually alot of these are toxic to them I'd read etc asked why bright light was on constantly and no hides ?They said boss wants them seen and sold Asked why they were sharing water with turtles ?and they said they were going to change it to there own water supply as noticed they had issues.
Im new to all this but have researched you experienced keepers for last 2yrs before I decided to buy one.
Anyway I could only save one as I had already ordered my axolotl from an experience keeper for in another 2 weeks time. I keep alot of tropical fish and have numerous tanks but they need big long tanks and only have a couple of 100ltr tanks free.
So I put him in a small medical tank 2 times daily with the salt procedure 10mins followed your guidence on here. Within days he looked great !
With water temp checks in big tank when put back already have API water testing drops , lots of hides, real plants ( safe for them) read every info on adminstration forum
luckily I already had a long over 100ltr tank set up at home ready for the new axolotl.
Seen this poor guy and my hubby said there is nothing you can do for it.
Well I did ? So far.
Well he ate 3 small worms on the first night (the ones advised for them on here bought from from another store as they just gave them frozen brine shrimp in his store which didnt interest him much maybe he is ready at 6inches in length to eat Worms I thought and he did.
. He also had 1 worm second night but did keep popping out of his mouth maybe should of chopped it up it as seemed quite big but he chomped it down after a couple of attempts.
MY QUESTION TO YOU EXPERIENCED KEEPERS!
Its now the 3rd day of not eating and he will not eat any worms he will snap at it then spit it out , tried really small pieces. Should I worry he is going downhill or sick ? ( no fungal skin apparent on outside) swimming, walking and investgating everywhere in his big tank.
I know they dont need to eat each day.
Was the second worm just a big meal and he just isnt hungry yet ? Is this just a normal axolotl thing when they are not hungry?
Am I doing everything right ? any advise always appreciated by you all?
Many thanks for your time reading all this, promise it won't be so long next time !

He/she is called Yuki ?

Well, I do not think that he is not hungry, Axolotls, I have noticed, Are hungry, greedy, little beasties. My advice right now would be to just try different foods, try some pellets or frozen bloodworms. As a second thought, go to your bait shop or dig some nightcrawlers. The worms he keeps spitting out might be red Wiggler's, which taste bad to Axolotls.

Sorry I didnt get a message I had a reply !
Thanks for your advice as I will know for the future ? He luckily started eating the smaller ones or chopped up after the 4th day and is eating well now. Thankyou for answering ! X

Glad to know that he is getting better. :)
