Hi my name is Virginia and I am the snake breeder known as Repticake. I have always loved aquatics and used to have fish tanks all over the house. That ended because of the massive amount of energy it took to keep them warm and filtered (I like to keep my house 65-68f). A couple years back I got my first axie a wild type female. I have always loved having her around and watching her while i was trying to sleep. I had mounted her tank above my bed and could see her from the bottom. Recently a friend of mine suggested since we already vend at the reptile shows why not start breeding them since they make great pets and I already have no problem caring for them. So now I am at 5 axies and here a few weeks later. I am hoping the community here is as friendly and helpful as the snake communities I have been part of.

Welcome to the forum! Good luck with your project. THis forum has everything you could hope to know about axies.

Welcome to Caudata! I love your mounted fish tank above the bed idea, very creative.

As Otterwomen said, any information you could possibly need is here and the community is always very eager to help out. :D

Hi there and welcome to the forum.

We'd love to see some pictures of your gang, please.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
