I keep finding great floating plants to protect my axolotls from too much light.

With every plant purchase I seem to get free pets. First it was three minuscule fish. I figured they would be quickly eaten by the axolotls, but instead they grew into three bigger fish, one a simple guppy and the other two something like a black neon tetra. Unfortunately the black neon tetras are two different genders and now I have two MORE minuscule fish. From reading the guppy thread, I am guessing this is ok. Yes? What if we keep making more little minuscule fish? I see one is fat and gravid.....I expect more mninscule fish soon.

I had previously bought some ghost shrimp to entertain the axolotls. They died or disappeared quickly. A couple of months later I notice a bright orange shrimp. I didn't buy any orange shrimp. They were all clear. With a closer look the shrimp is orange with white stripes. Pretty! I tried to take a photo but it sucks.

Is it common to get little hitchhikers when buying plants? Are they all "safe"? What would be unsafe?

I have found most of the aquarium hitchhikers to be ok, though mine just tend to be only snails. My guys seem to find them a tasty treat.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
