I think I might need to hospitalize a C.e.p. And have a few q's

-Does it matter if the paper towels are unbleaches?

-aquatic or not?

-If so, how do I get good water, if the cage water could be the problem.

Thanks!!!

Being that Im talking about a HOSPITAL tank I need the information rather fast. Sorry! thanks!

You can use either terrestrial or aquatic.

Terrestrial: Unbleached paper towels changed daily and kept moist. Some sort of hide should be provided. Unbleached towels are important as they are less likely to carry dangerous toxins.

Aquatic: Smaller container (still must be escape proof!) filled with dechlorinated tap water or from whatever source the water in the original enclosure came from. This is to reduce the stress of a changing water environment. Do partial water changes daily or every other day to minimize buildup of waste products. Place a hide or two in the enclosure but no other decorations/substrate.

For a single Cynops e. popei? I would imagine a smaller enclosure with a footprint of 8x12 inches would be fine.

You could use a plastic shoebox-sized container.

Its impossible to recommend terrestrial versus aquatic unless you say what is wrong with the newt.

I use plain old Bounty white paper towels. I've tried the unbleached ones, but they aren't very absorbent, so I don't like them much.

If you are concerned about the tank water, test for ammonia. If you don't have a test kit, most good tropical fish stores will test water for you if you bring a sample. You might want to remove all the newts to a temporary setup if there are water issues.
