Today is the feeding day where my axolotl gets his night-crawler instead of pellets but my question is when should i start feeding him whole night-crawlers instead of cutting them in half? He is about 5" and 6-7 months old. I just started giving his night-crawlers to help boost his growth.

The easiest way to find out is to offer him a whole one and keep an eye on the tank for a few days to make sure he doesn't regurgitate it. If he regurgitates it, keep feeding him pieces until he gets a bit bigger.

It really depends on what he will eat. My boy refuses to eat nightcrawlers unless they are cut up. Just test it and see.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
