Hello everyone

I'm still very new to axolotls and they are doing very well.

I bought a water hose, that helps me empty water and vaccume mess in the buttom. I also use that to fill the water.
I was just wondering - what do u guys use to dechlorinate the water?
What i use now, makes the water very cloudy for a couple of hours (its called Happy-life evolution). I add it to the tank right after water change.

I was thinking of buying "Tetra aquasafe" instead. Any good experience with that? Or better brands?

Peace out
Marie

Does it keep being blue? :O

Its seems to be a blue tinge, not sure if it has made my plastic containers go slightly light blue.. but the Fluval Water Conditioner has always been perfect

Okay, my petstore or danish stores just dont have that Fluval brand in conditioners.. Only Fluval filters etc :p
I must say i find it odd to put so much color in a fluid thats ment to go in a fishtank..

I think its supposed to be blue at first then it turns clear to indicate its working correctly. Seems to have lots of good reviews on Tetras website so can't be bad!

Happy Life's filter medium (dechlorinator and all baked together) is the best one on the market, IMO.
I got it recommended from countless fish enthusiasts and also a long time veteran salamander/newt breeder (30 years+) as the best one as well as the most economical - one bottle lasts forever.

The clouding is temporary and after it settles - the water becomes absolutely crystal clear. Many claim that their aquatic inhabitants seem to get better colours and grow better since they changed to this brand - I'm a bit more sceptical than that - but I have to say that I do see differences since I bought a bottle of Aquatan when I couldn't get a hold of Happy Life at that precise moment. Aqua-safe I think is completely okay but Happy Life seems to have more positive qualities than just dechlorination. I'm no chemist but I do imagine that I see a difference in water clarity, plant health and growth, algae since I had to settle for Aquatan.

I'm going back to Happy Life and sticking to it :)

Btw - I never add water first and then dechlorinator. I always prepare the water before I fill the tanks. Most people don't but I'd rather be safe than sorry, even if it's a ***** messing around with buckets...
It is - after all - quite a lot of chloramine that's poured in the tank in one go when filling with a hose. I prefer to have it pre mixed before I add it to the tank.
But then again - I tend to overdo stuff... :p

I do the same, prefer to have the dechlorinator added to the water before I transfer the water into the tank. I add it while filling my buckets/containers with water so it mixes well.

It is best to dechlorinate water before adding to the aquarium as not only the chemicals in tap water irritating to axolotls but the chemicals in tap water can also affect your tank's cycle by killing off beneficial bacteria. I have no personal experience with those brands. I use API tap water conditioner.

I've used API, Topfin, and Kordon AmQuel Plus. Personally, I like all of them equally. I've never gotten any water tinged and I like AmQuel because it detoxifies anything, and even though my water quality is good it's a nice pillow to make sure it stays that way. API is great too, and Topfin is easy to use.
