how long to leave axie in fridge

my axolotl was gagging, not pooping for about a week, and had a pretty swollen cloaca. i decided when i was watching him dry heave pretty badly that i needed to fridge him. i’ve only had him in the fridge for a few hours, but he’s already pooped a ton. how long should i leave him in there for? do i take the poop out or leave it in until i switch the water?

remove any stools as soon as possible as the waste can spoil the water.
