Can I keep 2 axolotls in the same tank ? and do they have to be diff sex.

They don't have to be different sexes
They just need to be the same size and have a 20+ gallon tank with some areas to hide in

I believe size is only an issue when they are really small. I adopted a 7 year old, 30cm female and 4 months later she happily accepted an 18month old, 15cm male and then we had eggs and never any issues.

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
