Hamlet and Ophelia don't appear to have the shiny ring around their eyes that I've heard people speak of. Is it difficult to see in leucistic axolotls, or might they be melanoid leucistic? The breeder i got them from also has melanoids, so its possible, but is there a chance I'm just blind and missing it? I looked from every angle..

the shiny ring is just as noticable on leucistics, and will be a light silver. Its more like half of their eye... not just a little ring. I'll try to find a photo of a non melanoid leucistic.

here is a normal leucistic, not melanistic. You can clearly see the silver ring compared to the one above

I have a leucistic and depending on what angle I'm looking at him from, I can see the ring and sometimes I can't. I also couldn't see it as much when he was younger. Different lighting I find can help see it too.

If the ring exists at all, it's not melanoid. But that's a good point: sometimes you can't see it from a certain angle, especially when they're young.

waaaait a second, by ring, are we talking about the iris? Actually in the eye? Or is it a separate ring around the outside?

Yes, the iris (if it's called that in caudates, anyway). In the eyeball itself, around the pupil. In melanoids, it's there, but it's not shiny. It often appears black, while blue is more rare. In every other color type, it shows up as shiny, either golden or silvery.
