My axolotl laid eggs approx 15-16 days ago and they are hatching, she has now very kindly laid me another batch. Not quiet as many as last time, but still approx 100-150 at a guess.
Is this normal?
My other eggs started to hatch at 12 days.

Do they normally lay so close together, or is it possible they are from the same batch?

I also noticed the funny furry stuff in my tank last night stuck to the filter and freaked coz I thought it was a fungus and cleaned it out. I now know it was the spermatophore

So is she going to keep this up?

They can lay eggs almost constantly if males and females are kept together. They should not be allowed to lay eggs more than every 6 months or so for a couple reasons. For one, it's hard on the female's body to produce those eggs. For two, it's hard for you to get rid of all the offspring!

Time to get another tank and keep your males and females separate.

I am a little surprised this is happening now. I bought all the axies and tank off a lady who had owned them for years and said she only had one batch of eggs when she first got them. I put it down to the change in water temp from them being moved. So hopefully they will stop! I don't really have the room or time for another tank at the moment.

I've had exactly the same experience, Evershine.

My female laid her first batch of eggs in April, and I got a second batch this week.
I was wondering if it was because the weather was getting colder, and maybe it wouldn't happen when it gets warmer?
My tank divider has proved ineffective... I'd only just noticed the spermataphores, was going to clean the, and then found the eggs!

Either way, I will have to move one of them out of the tank. If you were closer to Melbourne, I'd offer to swap male for female or vice versa - but I don't know about transporting them all that way!

Evershine I do know who are really happy about the second batch off eggs. My boy are driving me crazy with them. They starting to develop there gills.

Glad to hear Chrysler, I hope you have as much success with them as I have.
My kids have really enjoyed it too.
It is really funny watching them fill there bellies until they are bright orange !
