Hi!
Me and a friend have been cleaning out a local creek and stumbled upon some Dusky Salamander eggs. A few sadly slipped off the rock so we decided to take the one we were able to catch home. It's been a day and the salamander broke out of his egg/sac. We're new to the reptile world and are requesting help on how to care for the little guy. Also we're going down to the creek where we found him to refill his water. Is there any suggestions as to what we should put in it to make him feel at home?
Thanks in advance:ufo:

Most stream-dwelling Plethodontids are easy-expert carewise. Desmognathus species (Including the dusky) tend to fall into the middle, as they can put up with a few mistakes, but are hard to keep due to their cold-water stream habitat. Here are a few care-sheets for animals that have similar care: Caudata Culture Species Entry - Desmognathus - Blackbelly and Shovelnose Caudata Culture Species Entry - Eurycea - Two-lined and Junaluska

Something else worth noting, hatchlings and juveniles will be harder to feed, as they'll need smaller feeders or you'll have to chop their food into smaller pieces for them to eat. Here's another link to help you raise caudates from eggs: http://www.caudata.org/cc/articles/raising.shtml http://www.caudata.org/cc/articles/microfoods.shtml

What exactly do you mean by "cleaning out a local creek"?
