How to care for newt leg? amputation?

I have a firebelly newt that looks to have something wrong with the back leg..it looks broken im not sure...he can barely use it and it looks like he is in pain...what should i do? is amputation an option? the skin around the top of his thigh looks like see through redish..what do you guys think?? he can still use it a bit..

    Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
