When cycling my tank, I have to keep my axe in a pot of water but im finding that the temperature drops very fast.

How to keep axe in pot of water warm ???

Hi there! 
Axies aren't supposed to be kept warm actually! Room temperature or cooler is best, somewhere between 14-22 degrees Celsius, but preferably in the range of 17-20!
What's the temperature reading in the container your Axie is currently living in?

well i know they arent supposed to be WARM, its just that the water is around 58 F or lower, which i thought was pretty cold.

Well, that is a little low! Maybe can you keep the container in a warmer room?
I think this room hes in IS the warmest in the house :uhoh:
The temperature is fine for your axolotl, as long as it is not fluctuating too greatly from a higher temperature to a lower one.

The temperature of the water from the tap is cold obviously. You could let it acclimatize before adding the Axolotl.
How big is this 'pot'? I use large food containers for temporary housing, the larger the container the larger the volume of water, the larger the volume of water, the longer the water maintains a cooler temperature.

Why not just cycle the tank with the axolotl in it? It does not make sense to me to keep axolotls in small containers while cycling their tank. The axolotl is more likely to have water quality problems in that small container. The cold temp shouldn't be a problem either.

I raise Axolotls in food containers without issue. Water changes are so easy.
I would have thought cycling without the Axolotls gives full control over Ammonia doses, thus increases the cycle speed. Also not allowing your Axolotl to be exposed to high levels of ammonia and nitrite.

Because I don't think it's a good idea to expose your Axolotl to the dangerous ammonia and nitrite spikes that take place during the cycling process. As Chris said, the containers are so easy to keep clean and controlled. I had all of mine in containers for a few months until my tank completely cycled! ?
I agree with Michael.
I find it far easier to cycle any new tanks with the animals in place. While doing this, I initially would test their water daily, spot clean and do small water changes every day until the tests showed that the tank had cycled. If you are vigilant, your animals will not be exposed to to large ammonia/ nitrate/ nitrite spikes, nor will the temperature be subject to too high ranges. Choose a method that suits you.
