I have had many fish but never any axolotls until I got Pennyroyal. I received him from a sketchy pet shop since it was the only place near me that sold them and it was too warm at the time for any to be shipped to me. I got him very small and he lived in a 20 gallon tall with about 10 gallons of water in it so he could easily access the surface if he needed to breathe. I feed him axolotl pellets and he seemed like a very healthy and happy lotl . He would always follow me around the room and press his face against the tank whenever I came into the room he was in. But I sadly broke my ankle in 4 places and was unable to change his water for a little bit thus causing him stress. But now to where I'm at now. He is currently in a 20 gallon long and the water is clean, cool and his substrate is fine sand( as it always has been) but he has a very hunched back. It looks unnatural and uncomfortable. I remember him always having this and just thought it was natural until he really started growing. What I'm trying to say is this- is his back caused by poor breeding or is it my fault? I really am attached to this little guy so I would love some answers! Sorry for the long post just thought I'd give as much about my situation as possible. Also in the pictures he has a few signs of stress, but these were taken SECONDS after moving him into a 20 gallon long. So basically try and focus on his back please! He has no direct light on his tank that was just my flash and the last picture is just a fun one I included just to show how silly he is! Thanks so much!
