So my axolotl-ari has been eating fine moving about normally and her behavior hasn't
changed but after the last tank clean i noticed that she was keeping one set of her gills
pressed up against her body upon further inspection i realized that there was a small bump on her head where the stalk connects to the head. Any ideas if she could have hurt herself?
and if so what should i do?

Well, it could be a lot of things... Pictures would help.

Does it seem to be hurting her, or does she pretty much ignore it other than the gills keeping close?

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
