I Must Have Salamander Senses

So I recently bought an Anderson's Salamander from my local pet store, thinking that it was an axolotl. Guess not. He's a lot more active, for sure. Anyway, I woke up at 4am with a sudden though of "I NEED TO CHECK ENRIQUE ANTHONY."

Turns out, he was swimming rapidly around the tank and squirming a bit. I was concerned, and, not knowing what really to do, I performed a water change (though my levels were normal), and watched him. After about an hour, I noticed he had defecated. Turns out, he had a small pebble in his system from the pet store. Go figure. I must have salamander senses, since I've been up for an hour and a half looking after him. What a troublemaker.

Speaking of my Anderson, I obtained him for fifty bucks. From what I've found online, that seems to be a really low price. He was in great condition too, which nice fluffy gills and everything. Lucky find, though he's showing to be kind of a brat already. I can't wait to start feeding him worms!

This is the new guy. He's pretty darn handsome. Enrique Anthony is his name.

He's pretty much the cutest. He leans his head on the glass all the time. He's taken to standing up a lot, too.

Ed I've seen them for sale online for 150.00. That was the highest I have seen. Seventy five has been the lowest.

I know this will start alot of trouble but I feed mine rosey reds sometimes. Mine definitly hunt above them while my Axies hunt the bottom more. If I put in a dozen rosey reds they are gone when I wake up the next day. My Axolotls just look at them swim around until I take them out and feed them to my A. andersoni. They definitly have a different personality compare to Axies.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
