I have a tank with two male axies. They're constantly bumping into each other, following each other, doing 'mating dances', sniffing each others 'thing' like dogs do.

Why is it so hard for me to find 'normal' axies? When I add a female to the tank, they stop doing that and they're like: "What the hell is THAT? Can we get a little privacy please? Take the lady out!"

They're definitely male. And both about 3 years old. They have huge bumps and they're both dropping their 'funny packages of goo' in the tank as well. It's a mess!

What to do? Their splashing in the middle of the night is getting slightly annoying, unless they were male and female

woah whats wrong with them being gay?? i love gay animals!!! amphibians dont tend to care about gender (neither do i) and when they are bored, tankmates of either gender will do

There's nothing wrong with it, tt's actually pretty cute.
The only reason why it's annoying is that none of my axies want to breed. :(
And I want babies so bad!

so did i but when burrito and bean spawned i got so overwhelmed i had a mental breakdown (there were other factors involved though)
be sure ur ready because they r unpredictable

Mmmhmmm! I saw sperm, cleaned it up and waited to see if my female was going to lay. Nothing happened. Two weeks later I wake up for work and I see out of the corner of my eye while still in bed her upside down on a floating plant and I was like yuppp she is laying i guarantee. And i was right. But I never saw sperm a second time and i dont think it tales over two weeks to start laying?

AnywAys I guess they do like making it a surprise!

Its weird.. Its like with us. When you want a baby you cant conceive, but accidents happen like crazy!

Have you tried that approach? Pretending you dont want babies lmao.
I also blame the fact that my tank has been staying between 58-62 since winter hit. They seem to love it.

I think my Leonard is gay, he laid sperm the one day then tried to lead Sheldon around the tank for hours. Sheldon on the other hand was not overly impressed. I thought it was very funny.

PMSL! Mind you, I may have a pair of lesbians, they have rejected my male on several occasions and prefer to hang out together.

But hey, if 1 in 10 people are gay why not axies?

My college roommate and I had her Axie, Moony, and Moony's son, my guy, Mulder, in a tank together. Mulder harassed Moony with dances and just plant mounting, pretty much constantly, before I think he eventually gave up.

I haven't tried to breed him, though. (Our college had axies for the bio program and since people would take them home after their experiments were over, and then have accidental babies... there was a pretty overwhelming population, already)

Godric and Albus have always had a very special thing for each other, but I put Godric in a separate tank with Misha, and he cuddled and bumped her until she had babies...

...so I guess Godric is either bi or pan, but he really just seems to love anything >.>

I wouldnt say axolols are gay..... the males are just not too fussy

This thread has had me giggling like crazy! I love axolotl's that go against the rules of axololt-ism lol

My axies have bred twice- both times when I was away for a few nights! My parents insits they don't do anything different but when I leave they go for it!

While there are innumerable cases of homosexuality both as a physiological orientation and a behaviour in nature, male amphibians fit in no category, they just don´t care, they´ll try to court/amplex ANYTHING. I wouldn´t even call it homosexual behaviour, why bother, it´s pointless after having seen male newts enthusiastically courting snails and my own finger.
In the wild, male amphibians have been observed courting/amplexing other species, dead members of their own, inanimate objects, researcher´s hands and gloriously, fish.

This might be the funniest amphibian-related thing I've ever read

I put up a tank divider and they seem so sad :( my females are always starring sadly over to the males.. But i dont want anymore babies! Lol not right now.

Sometimes I wonder if it is the hide on the male side though lol, all 5 would lotl stack in the hide all day everyday.. It made feeding time dangerous because they wont move from the lotl stack under any circumstance

I wish I had a bigger tank for more lotls just to witness a lotl stack it sounds hilarious XD.

and this is a semi lotl stack. Toothless didnt join that time, just in the way of the picture. But there is 4 in that rock.

OK, my bad. Pinky has just laid 700+ eggs, so she at least swings both ways. Still not sure about Freckles though, she seems to be sulking since her girlfriend joined the baby-making brigade.
