So I have 2 axolotls, a black and an albino. In a 30gallon tank. For about 4 months I've noticed huge changed in the black ones appearance. His face has changed shape. The long fin down his back has receded to an indent, and his gold are heatwave receded to almost nothing. I mounded up pebbles bigger than his head so if he is morphing he can breathe, I have seen him get out and he will be dry. Breathing like a frog. The water is perfect. And I have no such symptoms with the other. if someone could answer this I would be appreciative. I will also upload photos. Thanks

Please post a picture. If he is getting out of the water, he is likely morphed and needs a terrestrial habitat ASAP.

in the first photo he was half out of the water, also, can axolotl blink naturally? or caused my metamorphasis?

"and his gold are heatwave receded"

meant was his gills have receded to almost nothing!

Are you keeping the other one in cool enough conditions so that it doesn't morph?

Also, have you changed that substrate from when you took the photo? It's a real impaction risk, and could cause even more problems...Sadly pet shops are notoriously bad at providing proper housing and care info...
Do you think you could post (Feel free to copy and fill in) for our information so we know how best to advise you:

That's so unusual, I wonder why that one morphed and the other looks ok. Those eyelids :O

Water temp: 18 degrees
pH: 7.0
Ammonia: 0
Nitrite:0
Nitrate:0
Tank volume/diameters 30 gallons:
Substrate: large pebbles
Plants/tank mates/decorations:none
Diet (what/How much/when): beef heart, and sinking pellets, 3 pellets a day

He definitely looks like he's morphing to me. The eyelids are a pretty good giveaway.

thats what i thought, i was like "hmm axolotls can't blink!" o.o

He has definitely morphed. He has formed nostrils!
