Hello all,
I'm new to keeping Salamandra...I bought one recently at a reptile show, and within a few days of bringing it home it developed what looks like a white fungal infection of some sort around one eye. Any ideas of how to treat? I will post pictures as soon as I can find the cable that connects my camera to my computer.

Also (and this is the main reason I posted this here and not the help section), are there ID pictures of the different subspecies anywhere? I will probably post pictures to try and get help with an ID here, but I would also just like to see what the different spp. look like.

Thanks for any help, sorry I'm being vague!

Thanks so much. I read that Salamandra care sheet when I first joined caudata.org just for the heck of it, but that was so many months ago I forgot it had all those great pictures.

One thing you can apply right away would be a triple-antibiotic ointment (i.e., Neosporin w/o benzocaine). There are probably more effective treatments, but most would probably require a trip to the vet (and this would certainly be the recommended course of action).

Regarding subspecies, you can never be entirely sure w/o locality info. Most sold as pets are the nominate sub.
