Hello I am currently in the process of setting up my axolotls final habitat as I have 3 and they were jeuvies in a 33 but before they show any signs of sexual maturity i would like to have them in a 55.

Anyway my idea for filtration was to use lighting diffuser that has been raised about an inch above the bottom of the tank with a canister filter return flow on one side and outtake on the other side of the tank.I would then pretty much carpet the lighting difuser with anubias and have some long wide driftwood acting as hides and party places. .

so my questions are

Will a decent carpet of anubias be a decent 'ground' for the axolotls to walk on. or will it stess them out

and

is this going to work as a semi maintenance reducing option for the tank or am i going to be doing the same amount of pooper scooping as i am doing in my bare bottom.

and

is there anything I am missing? i hope the current will be stongly diffused by the anubias and act as a vaccum to pull the poo particles through the plants and out into the cannister.

In my experience, axie poo doesn't float well in currents. I understand your though process, but I don't see how it would be feasible to execute.

Personally, I don't think the axis would enjoy walking on a "suspended anubias lawn" so to speak.... Would you be comfortable walking on a path made of hanging baskets 3 feet off the ground? Axolotls aren't the most graceful of creatures, and I think it would stress them tremendously to not be able to touch the bottom of their home at all.

Sounds like an elevated filter plate outfitted with a canister filter instead of air stones? Honestly, it sounds unnecessarily complicated, uncomfortable for the creatures and no cleaner than conventional filtration/cleaning methods. Sorry; just my opinion.

no worries thank you both for your input!

The more I have been thinking about it, the more I have been wavering.

This idea was just closer to crazy than it was to brilliant lol .
