I don't want to sound stupid, but I've been wondering this. How do you tell T. Verrucosus apart from T. Shanjing, barring the environment they live in? My problem is that many of the dealers at the snake shows mislabel the things they sell. Thanks, Alex.

I usually meet up with an expert from the zoo and he tells me. Luckily Ed. K. goes to many of the same shows I do. Almost all of the recent Tylototriton I have seen for sale at shows and on Kingsnake.com have been properly identified when they give them scientific names. It's tough when they are just identified as crocodile newt.

From the pics I have seen the difference is pretty big. The bright markings are much more evident in shanjing and the head is much more narrow and not at all so triangular as in verrucosus. Many other differences too, but these are enough to differentiate these two I think.
