Hi,
My friends salamander appears to have turned black. It is constantly laying in its water bowl and is very lethargic. Does anyone have any suggestions or advice please I am heading over first thing tomorrow to try and help with her.
Many thanks,
Emm

Some pics would be usefull. It may be having trouble shedding. Is it beign kept too dry?

The humidity looks ok. I saw it yesterday and it looks like a fungal problem. So have removed it from its enclosure and put it with damp kitchen roll and water. Have tried an electrolyte bath and later salt bath so will see if that helps. Unfortunately the vets in the area don't know about Salamander.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
