hi all, my name is richie, i don't currently own any newts or frogs/toads, but i have a few empty aquariums and would really be interested in some pics and or ideas and how to advice so that i might get one (or four) i currently have a red tail boa and an african spur thigh tortoise, i had but was forced to give away so i could move, a savannah monitor 5 red ear sliders, a nile monitor, 4 ball pythons, two small jacksons chameleons, and a red foot tortoise. i dont know too much about true vivarium design most of mine just had fake plants and alot of maintenance to keep the gravel clean, im really interested in some ideas and pics, any knowledge you share would be put to use... thanks

Welcome to the forum, Richie. We have an information site to accompany the forum, so you should check it out. Be sure to read the FAQ, and you may find this collection of photos useful:

Wet gravel is not a good substrate for vivariums, as it tends to foul easily - there is no way to keep the water within the rocks clean. I recommend either (1) enough water to keep the water clean through filtering and/or water changes, or (2) a terrarium with real soil (or soil-like) substrate. Which you choose depends on the needs of the species.

thanks. which would be a great starter? newt? or salamander?

if you ask me questions about ways to make setups safer i can probably help, i work at a small educational zoo and i setup their tanks but i don't make the kind of cash to make tanks like theirs thats why im asking for ideas...thank you..
(by the way any questions please email them to me so i can answer quicker, i dont get to check the forum very often and you can post your question and my response afterwards.. i hope i cna share knowledge to gain some.
