I have refrigerated ponyo for 3 days, along with salt baths and tea baths. he is like 3 inches maybe 4. he has not eaten since going in the fridge. is this normal? is the red line on his hind right leg a blood vessel or red leg? is the red tip on his right top gill the result of a bite or something else? and his front right hand seems reddish as well is this the result of red leg? and is the white hue at the end of his gills fungus or just discoloration?

Hi sergiomcaro, is Ponyo still in the fridge? He doesn't look ill to me. Why did you put him there in the first place?

Fungus looks like a piece of cotton wool. I can't see something likes this on the pictures.

Since he's so light, you will always see blood vessels shine through the skin. Especially when they're excited - my albinos turn almost pink when I feed them. It's like when you blush. ;) Unless he's not red all the time, there's no need to worry.

Fridging isn't the first choice of treatment when your lotl is bitten or has fungus. It slows down the metabolism, so it's highly unlikely that he will eat while he's in there.

Take him out of the fridge and keep him in an extra container with cool water and 100% water changes daily, if you're unsure that he's ill.

I experienced that salt baths are really stressful for axolotls, so I'd only do them if I'm sure it's necessary.

How did you do the salt and tea baths? Are there other lotls who could have bitten Ponyo, or do you keep fish with him?

Thank you so much for the advice. I have taken ponyo out of the fridge placing him inside the container on the top of the water to avoid stressing him with an abrupt temp change. He ate a couple earth worms today and seems to be doing fine. I believed his gill may have been nipped as he was previously in a 55 gallon tank with three other lotls that were a bit larger than him (which was the reason I had put him in the fridge.) They are currently separated and will remain that way until ponyo reaches their size. I will keep him in his separate container attached to the inside of the aquarium and monitor the temp doing 100% water changes until I'm sure his gill has healed. I had noticed the other day his gill appeared different and went into a panic only to freak out even more when searching the forum for all the possible illnesses or injuries he could have had :0 I'm so glad he is doing okay and thank you for responding I feel a lot better about helping him heal now :D also not sure if Ponyo is a he or she but I get a male vibe from him so I always instinctiveley refer to him as he/him/his
