Hi guys,
This is my first post, so i hope i am doing this right...
I have 5 female lotls, and the 5th was only recently introduced. She began being aggressive towards my other babies, so i have separated her in to a "time out" tank, until i can decide what i should do with her. One of my girls that was a victim to my new girls aggression, had some of her gills taken off and her front, left leg bitten. This was days ago and it didnt seem to bother her too much, but as of this morning, things have gone down hill, super fast :(
Raven (bite victim) now has a very red, limp leg and isnt eating. She went off her worms a few days ago, but will only eat when she is hungry, so this wasnt unusual for her. I am super worried about my girl. I adore them all and its breaking my heart, knowing she isnt well. I have attached a pic to show her yesterday, when her leg looked fine, to today, where you can very clearly see that its super inflamed and nowhere near normal. I have separated her and taken my water to the local pet store to have it all checked, and that all came back perfect. It looks as though you can see the little bones in her foot :(
My vet is closed today, can anyone give me a clue as to what this is and any advice on what i can do for her?
TIA

The first photo isnt a great one, sorry, but it was yesterday, and her leg was fine.
The other 2 are from a couple of hours ago.
Any help is greatly appreciated, thank you.

Hi Tony.
Sorry to hear that Shadow isn't well. You've done the right thing by separating her. I don't have any experience of this sort of injury, but it may be "red leg", which is a bacterial infection and should only be treated by your vet. I have attached a link to some further information.
Axolotls - Health & Diseases
Unless any of the more experienced keepers can identify the problem and offer some suggestions, then I would suggest keeping Shadow separate and seeing your vet as soon as possible.

When reintroducing the new axolotl to the tank I suggest using a divider, which will help them to get used to each other without the risk of damage.

Best of luck and I hope that Shadow gets better soon.

Hi Donna,
Thank you for your reply. I took Raven to the vet today, and she has injured her leg. I fridged her last night, and she's already made a huge improvement. I feel so relieved ?

Thanks again!

Hi Tony.

Many thanks for the update. It's great to hear that Raven has already made an improvement.

Best wishes for a full recovery for Raven and please post pictures when she is feeling better.

Keep up the good work.
