I got a Giant Hygrophila plant for my tank.The 10gal tank is filled with 4 gallons of water and is housing 2 fire belly newts. MY question is how do i introduce this plant whit out introducing any thing harmful?

Thats a really good question, and I am curious to know the answer. When I bought plants, I made sure that they were from a tank that was just plants... no baby snails hidden on them or anything. I was lucky and haven't had any problems with the plant and my newt. What else should I have been watching out for?

I've heard that the thing to use is potassium permanganate, but I don't know where you'd buy the stuff - eBay maybe. Here's a page that gives several things you can use, including bleach:

Typically a 1:9 bleach to water ratio is used in plant tissue culture work for disinfection.

If you are interested in purchasing potassium permanganate, try chemical supply houses such as Spectrum Chemical or The Chemical Store. Spectrum Chemical offers USP and reagent grade chemicals (high grade purity and pricey). The Chemical Store is more tailored to hobbyists and student labs.

Thanks for the suggestions, Jan. It's not available at chemicalstore.com, but it is available at chemistrystore.com - but 1 pound is the minimum, and there are some issues regarding hazmat shipping. Most pet hobbyists would find this a deterrent.
I did find it on eBay, being sold in smaller amounts for treating koi. So perhaps some good pond stores and pond supply websites may also sell it.
I don't know why petshops don't sell some kind of product for this purpose! Many aquarists have learned the hard way that live plants are a good way to infest your tank with snails, etc. I tend to see these things as beneficial, rather than pests, but other people are more fastidious than I am.
