Introducing the males to the females

Hi
I have 2 sets of Axolotls, a pair of males and a pair of females. I am going to to pair them up as a male and female in each tank.
I have decided to put the similar sized ones together.

Does anyone have any tips or things I should expect. I am a bit worried about it because it is a big change for them.

Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

As far as I know it shouldn't be any different that introducing a same-sex axie. What I'd suggest is placing them all in tubs for an hour while you change up their existing tanks so they look like whole new territories, then place each axolotl at different ends on the tanks so they have time to adjust before they see each other. If any of your axies are prone to panic or biting maybe put up a divider for a day or two

When I first introduced my male and female, my female started to really hurt my male. They were the same size, yet she managed to bite off some of his tail, leg and face!
If you have success with their introduction, please let me know how you went about it!

Axolotls are not territorial, just drop them in the same tank together and dont worry about it if they are the same size. Aggression between similar sized adult axolotls is rare. Injuries are generally accidental rather than deliberate.

I have decided to hold off pairing them up for now, as I am going to get a large tank and put all 4 together.
I think it will be nicer for them to have a group, I can then fit lots of hides and interesting stuff for them.

I have now put all four Axies together 2 males and 2 females
The same day a mating dance began and the next morning the female is laying eggs

I now have somewhere between 200-300 eggs, i'm so pleased and finding it really interesting.

I am trying to get some good photos but my camera doesn't want to focus on the eggs!

Wow! I have (I think) a male Leucistic and female wild type....bit young yet for breeding but introduced them to the same tank without issue (so far so good). Both eating well and have settled into the tank nicely.

How long does it take, usually, for the eggs to hatch?

This is my first batch, but I think it usually takes about 2-3 weeks to hatch, so not long now.

I'm glad your axies have settled in well Be great to see some pics.

My group are very happy together I was so nervous when I introduced them, but all went well
