Hi, I am a new axolotl owner and I noticed this white stuff on my baby Mosaic axolotls gills. I wasn't sure if the white stuff was a fungus or iridophores? I attached 2 pics in different lighting of my baby.

Hi Harley and welcome to the forum.
Those look like iridophores on the gill stalks, in my opinion. I've seen similar on my wild types and coppers.
However, I've only been keeping axolotls for around 2 months, so it will be worth getting the opinion of one of the more experienced keepers.
Best of luck with your little ones, please keep us updated on progress and post lots of pictures (we love pictures). :D

Hello Harley,

I'd agree with Donna. They look like iridophores, and very pretty too!

To be sure, take a low powered torch and shine it on the iridophores. If they shine back, they're iridophores.

Just be careful to avoid your baby's eyes, since they don't like light very much.
