Yeah, probably a male. Nice swelling of the cloaca. Viewing from the top is rarely definitive in sex determination. Females are only wider if carrying eggs, and a well-fed male may be just as wide as a female. The cloacal swelling is the defining characteristic.
Holding your axolotl isn't as dangerous as holding them out of water. Try to take pictures while they're in the water. It's less stressful to them.
