Hi everyone,

I don't want to be paranoid but I was looking at my axie today and noticed his right eye (our left in the photo) is a little bulgy. It'a kinda hard to get a picture but it's like there's a clear bubble on or over it. When I looked at him this morning he had sand all over his head including his right eye so do you think that it could just be a little bit of irritation (or absolutely nothing)? It could maybe be just a protective film but I've never noticed it before and I've gazed into those little eyes a lot!

I'm going on holiday soon and he's going to stay with my mum for a few weeks so want to be sure he's ok before I leave.

Ph is 6.0
Ammonia is 0
Nitrite 0
Nitrate 0
Tank water temp 20 degrees c

If it's just a clear little bubble then it's normal. It's just hard to notice unless you're really trying to see it and even then you have to look at it in a right angle.

How come your nitrates are at 0?

Your description sounds like the lens of the eye which is normal.

Thanks both.

Keiko, probably because he's had a substantial water change very recently, only thing I can think of. Tank is/was cycled, but had an issue with nitrate spike fairly recently so maybe it's not recovered from that.

As long as his eye is ok I can keep an eye on the cycling.

Thanks both :)
