Hey guys, I was wondering if my little larvae are leucistic or wild type.

Thanks

Evan

Wild.

Here's a pic of a wild and a leucistic larva, both just sprouting back legs.

I want a juvie wild type sooooo badly :)

I knew I could never stop at just one ;)

Well they will all be for sale in a couple months.

Shame I'm in Australia ;)

I'm sure I'll find some here :)

Big news, while. Was looking at them in the dark under a flashlight I saw that the ones that were thought to be wild type had a weird yellowish color to them. It was then I realized that I had two different colored males in the aquarium, one leucistic and one gfp melanoid. I had a burst of hope because normally wild types sell for much less than the other colors. So I ran and got my backlight. When I plugged it in and turned it on I saw in amazement that the golds were a brilliant yellow-green. And the wild types had a yellow-green tint as well. So the "wild types" are probably melanoid. Here is a picture.

Here it is.

Here's a picture of what my leucistic larvae looked like-- they look awfully alike. Is it possible to have a mix?

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
