Is it normal for the axolotl to keep redecorating his tank?

Hello all! Our axolotl, Little Joe, is almost a year and a half. He is very definitely and clearly a male, lol. Over the past month or so, he has been sort of obsessively redecorating his tank. Every couple of days all his plants are in a different configuration! He pulled one of them into his cave, then this morning I found he kicked that plant out and pulled two different ones into his cave. I think it's really cute/funny, but just wanted to make sure this is normal axolotl behavior and not evidence of any sort of problem. Thank you so much!

My axolotl does this too, but instead of moving them he just uproots them and them they float at the top of the tank! Makes it a real pain whenever I go in and see roots and stuff covering the surface, what a little turd!

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
