When he was little he had just a few black specks like freckles on his face, but they have been spreading as he gets older. Now that he is about 1 year, 3 months, he looks like this:

Does he qualify as a piebald/harlequin, or is he just a leucistic with some black coloring?

Thanks!

im not to sure, mine has similar colouring on its head but doesnt have the black stripe down the top of its back. mines a leucistic. mines also developing colouring underneth its tail.

Ashley, that would be a piebald

. Harlequins are different. Good find, where abouts do you live? And welcome to the forum!

Thanks! Good to know. I ordered him from Niles Biological in Sacramento, CA. I got another one just a few months ago, but all they had at that time was golden albinos.

all they had at the time!? I would give anything to get a golden albino

He's a cute little axolotl you have there.

I love how those white ones have little freckle like things on their faces.

I would be very proud to own an axie like that. You have done very well.

Can i persuade you to post some more pictures in the gallery section. I would love to see a few more.

You will have to become a member first though in order to upload pictures.

I don't think it's piebald or harlequin. These involve large patches of white or color over the WHOLE body, not just the head. I think it's just a heavily colored leucistic.

Hey Joan, what does it mean if the colour is spreading though?

It's an interesting axolotl, I wonder what kinds would come off it if it was bred?

Thanks for all the interest! I registered as "Ashley" and I posted in the gallery here:

The current pictures aren't great, but I'm going to try to take some better ones when I get back from the holidays.

Guess I got lucky getting an axie like that - Niles Biological seems like a good company to order from, they have been great to deal with.

i agree with joan.. just a normal leucistic. generally their freckles do spread and/or darken as they age, i have one that looks very similar to yours, very dark head with a stripe along its back.
charlotte, please PM me about goldens, i have a good source of them if you are really into them
