Is my filter too powerful?

Hi I am currently cycling a new 2f tank 64L (I believe thats about 17 gallons) and I have a Fluval U2 filter running in it. The filter is advertised for tanks up to 110L (30 gallons) and goes 400 L/H (105 GPH). The filter has the option to slow down and go through less litres per hour but I currently have it running at full capacity.
Could that hinder my tank in any way? Should I be slowing it down?

For cycling that's not a problem. The additional current might make your water evaporate a bit faster, and depending on the type of filter it might raise temperature slightly, but nothing that would hinder the cycling process.

Once the tank is cycled and you put the axolotl(s) in, I would advise lowering the output a bit. Some axolotls dislike current, others don't mind too much. When the axolotls are in, play around with the filter output until you reach a level that you like but doesn't stress the axolotls unnecessary.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
