Is this a spermataphore? If it's not, what is it?!

When I was feeding my two lads just now, i noticed a few blobs of what look like cooked egg white in the tank, lying on the bottom. The only thing I can think it might be is a spermataphore... but it doesn't really look like other pictures I've seen. I fished it out, there's two bits, consistency a bit more solid than a blob of phlegm (Pretty gross!) The larger blob (pictured) is about the size of a kidney bean.

They're about 6 years old, both boys, and I've never seen them lay one before.

If that isn't what it is, I have no idea... And would welcome any suggestions to help solve this mystery... My only other thought is that it's something they've puked up. 😕

They're both otherwise healthy and active, and the tank is closed at the top.
Thanks!

Definitely not a spermatophore. Puke would be my best bet as well.

Probably harmless, if it's a one-time thing.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
