Isolation Questions

I am getting my black axolotl and my white Axolotl thursday and I am so excited, but I have some questions. Will it be ok to put them in my tank with my Axolotl I already have, or will I have to isolate them for a while, and if so, for how long? They are being shipped to me from another state, I have never had animals arrive in the mail, not even ants or sea monkeys, so I don't know what I should do exactly. Thanks guys. I can't wait for the big moment!

Hey just a quick question for you Rheann, do you know if the place you got these from ever ship mature axies (of breeding age). I am going to be looking for another axie in a couple months, but I want to be sure of its sex. Sorry for going off topic.

But as far as isolation, you may want to do this because they are from different locations and one may carry some sort of disease or infection, but other than that just the usual let it get used to the water should be fine. However, what are the ages (or sizes) of the axies. Smaller axies, from what I hear not by experience, often get into conflicts with each other and sometimes cause harm. But, you should wait for a more experienced member for a more experienced opinion.

Hi Grant,
The person I am getting these axies from is someone outside the state that is not a breeder, he just offered to get them from a breeder from another state and ship them to me. They are juvinille axolotls, so their sex can't be determined yet. Ward's biological now has some wild type Axolotls and maybe some other type, if you would like to try there, and Niles biological will have new axies in the fall, as I called them a few weeks ago and they said that they will be getting some in then. I trust the person seding me the axies because I have already seen pictures of them, and he has offered to ship them to me first, and then I pay when I get healthy axies alive and safe. Thank you for your advice on isolation, I believe they will be healthy, as he sais they are, but I wanted to make sure first, I will let them sit in a baggy of water inside the tank until they ajust. Yey! I can't wait to get my new little friends! It took forever to just find them!

Ok cool. Hope everything goes well!! And enjoy your new friends!!

Thanks Grant

I can't wait to post pics up of all my little buddies

Rheann - I would keep them not only separate from your axolotl but separate from each other as well.

Depending on their size they might still be "nippy" and bite each others legs and gills.

I keep mine in their own separate containers until they are about 6" long.

You at the very least want to keep them separate for a couple of weeks to make sure they are healthy.

Good luck with your new additions.

Thanky you Cynthia

I will keep them seperated for a few weeks to monitor them and see how they are doing. I don't want them nipping at each other as well, and in a few weeks I will see how it is to put them together

I am so excited! I can't wait! They will arrive tomorrow. does anyone know the arrival time on over night deliveries? do they come in the morning or noonish or afternoon? Not sure when to expect it, is there a time garantee? Thanks

It really depends, but (really bad example sorry lol) at my work (tractor dealership) we order tractor parts for over night shipping all the time and we normally receive them in the morning to afternoon. We normally get them pretty early, so I would expect it to be around 11-3ish.

Thanks Grant!

I hope mine arrives then, as we have dinner guests coming over at 6, and I have to get the Kitchen ready and get my little axolotls situated in their containers before they come. That helped a lot thanks
