Well ..... I' m a real nice guy for starters . :)

My main obsession is snake keeping ( and tropical fish to a lesser extent ).

Currently have the following snakes

1 Snow Boa - 7' adult - the featured Snow Boa in John Berry's Designer Boa Morphs .
1 Dwarf Hypo Burmese Python
2 HC Albino Royal Pythons ( unrelated pair )
1 Pastel Royal Python
1 Rhino- nosed rat snake
1 Red Mountain Bamboo rat snake.
I Imperial Pueblan - Hybrid ( King x Milk)
1 Amel Stripe Corn-snake ( male )
1 Blizzard White Corn-snake ( female )
1 Banded Cali King
1 Albino Striped Cali King
1 Desert King
4 Garter snakes ( I Melanistic 'Black' and 3 Albino White Chequered Garters)

I have Aspergers ( form of autism ) and have worked in education for 19 years helping autistic teenagers to survive the torture of secondary / high school .

I

Please excuse my obsessiveness plus any poor spelling / grammar ....it comes with Aspergers , sadly .

Thank you for the kind words ... I will try and post a few pix :)

Here's my proven adult male Snow who's probably the jewel in my collection , certainly the costliest and most valuable money-wise.

He's the poster- boy Snow Boa of the well respected John Berry Designer Boa Morph books .

He's around 6 years old and approaching 7' long and very calm and friendly .

This next one is a unique looking Hybrid . Listed as an Imperial Peublan .

As I understand he's a mix of a Cali King and a Pueblan Milk . Has a lovely calm temperament and he's a CB12.

Jose2ImperialPeublan_zpseacac121.jpg

Next in line is my beautiful Dwarf Hypo Burmese python ... currently about 20" and around 12 month sold . Lovely temperament .
Crazy to see a Burm not much bigger than a biro / ballpoint pen

.

Last up for the time being is my lovely little Rhino Ratsnake .... he's about 6 months old and hasn't developed his adult bright greenish colour as yet.
He's rather cute though , non the less :)

I'M AN ASPIE TOO! :D

Welcome to the forum. It's a really great place. Snakes are beautiful animals. Salamanders are my obsession, and I like turtles as well. I have one blotched tiger salamander (hoping to get another one soon), three red eared sliders and one ouachita map.

I'm always happy when I see others with Aspergers who enjoy similar things as me.

Nice to hear from you ... it's certainly not easy admitting that you / we are different from the " norm " but I've always been upfront about my Aspergers and most seem to understand or at least cut me a bit of slack , sadly not everyone .

Thankfully there are positives that come with the many negatives as regards to Aspergers.

I love all my little "obsessions" even though they kinda impinge on the rest of my life somewhat :)

I'm guessing that you are familiar with The WrongPlanet ??

Here's another shot of the Snow Boa ...

Plus a rather poor photo of one of my two Albino Royals .....

Beautiful boa! <3 I can see you really love and take good care of your snakes.

And, no, I am not familiar with Wrong Planet. What is that?

I'm in a pretty good place with my autism diagnosis. I take part in the autistic community as much as I can, and I admin my own page about autism spectrum disorder. If it weren't for the ADD, meltdowns due to being overstimulated and dyscalculia that is also apart of my autism, I would have no issue at all being on the spectrum. :D I find it gives me some advantages. I was diagnosed when I was 7, but I wasn't told until I was 14. I felt like a freak at first and it took me awhile to accept myself, but I fully do now. I definitely am OBSESSIVE though! And that can sometimes throw people off.

My obsessions are pretty vast. Fauna/Animals of practically any kind (though felines, salamanders, dinosaurs and rodents are some I know the most about), Victorian Ear, Anima and manga, fantasy novels, Alice in Wonderland, science and nature, the occult, myths and legends and even autism itself is a special interest of mine.

I have a few pictures of snakes in my album section. I don't know what kind they are though... lol

Sorry I didn't reply earlier, I didn't get a notification for some reason.

.

Lovely to hear from you . It's always nice to encounter a fellow Aspie ! :)

I was posting on another reptile forum just yesterday and mentioned my Aspergers / autism and tried to explain the basics of it and how it effects my life so dramatically ( even my loving family - cannot and will not ever be able to understand how debilitating it can be on a daily basis ) . Anyways after an hour or so another young guy posted that he was an Aspie but had been keeping it to himself as he wasn't confident enough to mention it . It seemed to lift a weight off his shoulders as he shared his experiences on the thread ! He was always getting into little online scuffles through simple misunderstandings .

Anyways...... the WrongPlanet is an Aspie / Autisitic spectrum website for us weirdos :)

Sounds like you will fit in just fine LOL

That's awesome! :) Us weirdos have to stick together!

Thanks for the link! I'll check it out.

Well the browny snake around the kid's shoulders is a young common Boa and the white snake further down looks to be a Leuicistic Texas Ratsnake .... I had one but it was a psychotic killer and I had to move it on to a guy who liked snakes with attitude :)

Interesting to see the Daschund pix as our son has just bought a puppy Daschund . ( commonly known as Sausage dogs around here )

:)

Thanks! That's good to know. ?

The "wieners" as they are often called here, are Buddy and Sasha. :) Awesome dogs. Sasha is aggressive towards strangers though. Buddy is a ball of sunshine though.

Hi Zincubus. I'm new here as well, but I'll offer a welcome anyway.
I am particularly interested in your post because my 16 year old daughter is an Aspie too. It is a struggle sometimes because not many people are familiar with this neurological disorder. She has difficult time at school, more so than at home but we have struggles at home too.
I am always looking for research, tips and suggestions, so if you can point me to anything you find helpful, I would appreciate it.
I'm not a snake person, but yours are very . . . interesting.

Hi !

Well I've found Aspergers to be mixed blessing to be fair . I love being obsessive about things as it helps when I'm researching something ... I love being addicted to some many wonderful things like Snakes / animals / nature in general / football ( soccer) / all those of music / movies etc etc BUT the downsides include being mentally exhausted each day . It's said that we have to work / concentrate THREE times harder than the norm to gain the same results .

Other downsides I've seen in my life and indeed many others , aside from the mental exhaustion from concentrating and simply trying to fit into society ARE poor memory unless it's connected to an obsession , very poor sleep patterns , food / medication intolerances - travel sickness - very narrow and repetitive diet , trouble with socialising especially when there's quite a few people around, mood swings and depression . .. . probably many others ...

Anyways , I've loved being 'different' for the last 57 years and even now I'm still learning new strategies in coping with life.

I'd suggest that YOU join and visit the special Aspergers / Autism forum aptly named WrongPlanet.com :)

It's free to join and YOU and your partner can visit the forum for advice / see other Aspie experiences - you'll be amazed at some of the comments and threads .... It will explain so much of what's she's experiencing and why ...

Wether you want your daughter to see the site and / or join will be easier to decide after you've bad a good look around the threads as some of the people / replies can be fairly harsh or unforgiving . There are sections for parents , teenagers etc

Talking with other people on the spectrum is a great way to start. :) Certainly go to the forum that was provided, and there are also many pages and groups on Facebook where 100s of people with autism and aspergers interact with each other and family members.

This is a great thread!

I second that! Awesome thread, it kinda gives you a warm and fuzzy  :D :p

Zincubus, awesome snakes!! I used to have a breeding pair of Ball Pythons and an 8 1/2 ft (259cm) female red/rosey tail Boa.(I wasn't very creative with her name as it is "Rosey"
She is big for her type, super docile and loves taking baths in a half full tub :p I'll have to post picture in my album.

Btw, my brother and I both suffer from O.c.d ..and I, A.d.d...
I'm pretty sure my brother is an Aspie, his O.c.d is also debilitating, but it gets ignored because of his schizophrenia. The poor guy is insanely smart in some area completely insane in others  He has the worlds biggest heart

You're gonna fit in fine here :D
And so Glad you joined!

Thank you , that's a lovely reply !
Sounds like you are onto something as regards your brother ;)

There are loads of online Aspergers tests .. They will can and will give good indications as to wether someone ' may ' have Aspergers .. The tests range from 5 minute ones to as long as you want ;)

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
