I know it's difficult to see, but I've been wondering about these markings on my Axolotl's face. First, there is a white bit, extending from the gills to the front of the face on both sides. Then there is a darker bruising color around the eyes. Does it all look normal to you?

Edit: Sorry for the odd link there. Don't try to open it.

The reddish color around the eyes is probably due to excess blood vessels in that area. It's red for the same reason the gills are red: there's more blood there.

As for the white bit, I'm assuming you mean the faint scar-like webbing. It doesn't look like anything to worried about, just natural coloration. The skin may be thicker there, or there may not be any blood vessels in that specific area.

Yes, it looks exactly like human scarring.

Thanks for the response. Good to hear.

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
