I have had this axolotl for just over a week now, he is about 4 or 5 inches wildtype. He is usually really eager to eat. I've been trying to feed him this morning and at night a piece of an earthworm, cut up so he can easily eat it. He's interested in the worm, will eat it, move his mouth once or twice but will end up spitting the worm out. He has been eating worms the entire time I've had him, and I made sure to make it small and bite size for him. Any thoughts? Not sure if he's having trouble swallowing the worm.

i've that happen far many time with earth worms with axolotl , now for any axolotl smaller than 6 inches I would only feed them live Aquatic black worms instead , axolotl can't get enough of them.

Earth worm produce lots of resisting goo slime , not so easy for teethless like creature to just swallow unless their suction pipe getting more stronger by age. If you can't effort it then try wax worms ( hand feeding only , don't leave them dead in water)
