My little Water Sausage is around 1.5 inches long. I am currently feeding them bloodworms and I put them in a small food tray, but whenever they finish eating they always just stay sitting in the food dish for a while. Is this normal behavior?

The bloodworms are frozen bloodworm cubes

The temperature of the worms may be a shock to the Axolotl's system.
I once did a tank change with water that I had kept in the refrigerator overnight.
Given my Axolotl's reaction, which was for her to do a lot of barrel rolls and swim around opening and closing her mouth rapidly, I thought that she might die.
Turned out to be muscle cramps brought on by water temperature.
If the blood worms are frozen in cubes, try thawing them and then feeding them to your juvenile.

I always thaw them first

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
