Our juvenile one has always been a 'floater' to a certain extent, just recently he's seemed to not be able to control it anymore, he can swim to the bottom when he's there his back end is always raised which I'm presuming is constipation, but he inevitably ends up as the pictures below show
I've repeatedly checked the water parameters using the API testing kit and nothing is out of order in that respect
(He's in a container in these pics with enough water to cover him, to go in the fridge to hopefully aid the constipation but when he floats different parts of his body are out the water)
Any advice would be greatly appreciated, thank you

That's exactly the problem with my axie, too.

Other than the floating thing, she doesn't seem bothered by it. Weird or what?

There is a genetic condition where Axolotl's are unable or unwilling to exhale air from their lungs, and end up being "floaters". I know that there have been posts describing it, and I have heard there is a specific protocol to treat it, but I have never seen the specifics posted. Sorry that's not more helpful. Try searching for other threads on floaters, most will be constipation related, but some are not. It might be worth searching university pages also, as it's a common lab animal and I know research projects are done on "floaters". Let us know what you find out, and whether it works!

thanks for the advice, I put him in some colder water in the "Axie ER" and within a day the swelling had dissappeared so i can only presume it was trapped gas of some kind, he's now back to being upright and walking on all fours
