Keeping single juvenile 4 1/2 in 5 bpa free container

5 gallon bpa container. Can i do this with 2 daily full water changes until he is large enough for the adult tank? is it bad for his mental state to have such a small space if it is cool and dark with a hide.

I've no idea what container your using but axolotls do fine in low water vols if water quality is maintained, just be aware that those low vols are highly susceptible to temp fluctuations which are potentially stressful to the axolotl. Make sure the tub is wiped daily to remove the bacterial build up. If you check the link out you can see how adults are kept in some research and lab breeding centres

10 gallon aquariums are usually around 10 bucks at walmart and most fish stores, it wouldnt hurt to at least get a nice glass 10 gallon, it would really appreciate having more room and more water
a little 5 gallon container wont be much of a home once it gets to be 6 months old or over about 5 or 6 inches
5 gallon plastic container should be ok for a short time though, you will definitely have to watch water quality and temp very regularly...

thanks for that tip mackinthebox. I keep 3 axis in a 55 gall tank. they are about 6 inches. I have a little guy who is a couple inches behind them. my house is usually 73 degrees and I like to keep the axis around 60. I only have one chiller so I put the 5 gall container in the 55 gall to keep it cool while my little guy grows big enough so that the older ones wont bite him. ill keep an eye out for a 10 gall aquarium with the right detentions to fit inside my 55 gal tank

yes if you leave an inch or so of air at the top. I secure it in to the side of the tank with suction cups so it stays in one spot. im thinking of siliconing a thin layer of sand to the bottom of it to provide ponyo with more security and shade for the other guys. I currently have a small plastic bpa free cup and clump of java moss in ponyo's container as a hides. anything heavier and the container would sink for sure. I've found some containers with 18x12 surface area on the bottom for like 25 bucks. that would be a good upgrade.
